Welcome to our first ever State of the Chan Address! As today is the first anniversary of OPchan under new management, we the admins would like to direct a few words at you, fellow OPERATORs, while also reflecting on the past and gazing forward to the future of OPchan.

Our first year of *chan administration has been expectedly turbulent. However, we feel that we have been able to find a good balance, thanks in large part to our outstanding moderator staff and our users. Looking back, events like the Arab Spring, the shootings in Aurora and Newtown and Christopher Dorner's vendetta against the LAPD generated huge amounts of content and discussion on OPchan. Considering our predominantly American userbase, the explosion of the pro- and anti-gun discussion in the States, with all its headlines, hypocrisies and talking points, was and still is the most dominating topic on the boards for the last few and upcoming months. We have no intention on regulating this discussion/topic, as it is a legitimate concern for a majority of our user base.

Our staff currently consists of Godverdomme, Seraph and SwissGuy as admins, with Frankengun, Jedi Dachshund, Kiwifruit, balci and ConcernedCitizen as moderators to support us. Serv was originally also part of the moderator team, but has since been relieved of his duties. We feel that our current number of staffers is sufficient to deal with the traffic being generated. However, we may solicit applications for janitorial or moderator positions in the future, and will announce any vacancies accordingly. Our most pressing need is coding support. Any and all coders experienced with PHP and motivated to make OPchan a better place for users and staff alike are invited to contact us via email (seraph@operatorchan.org or godverdomme@operatorchan.org) or via IRC.

OPchan's financial situation is satisfying. As promised when we took over the board, our finances are completely transparent and accountable. Thanks to your generous contributions and donations to our hosting fund, our current financial reserves are just under 600$. You can view all donations and expenses at http://www.operatorchan.org/donations.html. Due to uncertainty regarding PayPal's treatment of firearms-related activities, we have chosen to move part of our funds to an offline bank account kindly provided by a staff member. This account is not costing us any processing or other annual fees, and ties in nicely with our PayPal account. Our current regular expenses are server hosting (70$/mo) and DNS/registration fees (currently registered through mid-2015). As such, we are financially set for the next 8 months, and would like to extend a big thanks to everyone who has donated. However, as a non-profit site, we are dependent on user contributions, so any and all future donations are very welcome at donations@operatorchan.org.

We've been trucking along here at OPchan since relaunch last February, and in spite of some early bugs, it seems like things from a technical standpoint are going swimmingly. But, keeping the lights on and the server paid up is only part of the equation, so I thought I'd ask the community, how are things going? This is your chance to bitch, moan, praise, damn, or whatever you would like to do, provided you aren't directly attacking another user, or generally being an asshat.

Some specific things I'd like input on are how you think staff is doing with moderation, what you think about our current fiscal set-up, and any "family" problems you think the staff needs to address.

I have said before that Meta-Threads are always a bad idea, but I think once a year having you guys tell us, direct, what you think, is a benefit that outweighs the potential drama problems. I will say that GVD, before signing off on letting this happen, stipulated that it was only to be done after he left for vacation...

tl;dr? Tell us what you like, and don't like, and want to bitch about regarding OPchan.

I don't want to start a pissing contest, but I am certainly no troll. I've been around with a trip for a while and post in places other than /n/, my posts are all sincere. If I truly wanted to troll I would remain anon and post inflammatory one liners or some shit. But I am sincere on here, sorry if you and many disagree with me but as Acid said in /sug/ we all put on our 'big boy pants' when we come to opchan.

How's the conflict progressing? Been trying to find a source that offers up to date & thorough information on the ebb and flow of the war. Last I saw on a cursory glance the government is on the offensive and restructured their army to be more counter-insurgency with Iran's help - having their own Basji militias being formed/trained and such.

They've had these since WWII, but after they showed to be ineffective on the front lines they were pulled back to guard bases. Which is honestly the only legitimate job for a UGV.

Russian winters are fierce, it's easier to for a robot to patrol a perimeter around a nuclear silo 24/7 on the cheap, than to send a dude out there who gets frostbite and dies.

Excepting James Bond, Hollywood still hasn't caught up to things like this. Which is kind of weird because they would make a fun movie.

They have; they're just usually poorly executed. Like the "Screamers" sequels.

Probably not. Under ideal conditions.

But if you have your BOB and are headed to your BOL, something nearby has likely gone seriously awry. It may not be safe or even possible to go directly to your location or to go right away. Fire, flooding, unsavory individuals, police/military perimeters, etc

Not to mention that you may want to avoid roads or common trails, dependant upon the situation, and blazing your own trail is quite a bit slower than following existing roads or trails in almost any terrain.

Gotta plan for things to go against you.

I don't have a BOL. At this point, because I live in the greater Seattle area, I'm completely fucked if SHTF. However, keep in mind that a week's worth of supplies if I decide to E&E further away from downtown is necessary just because that first week is likely to be entirely too dangerous to be out foraging through empty homes. Scoot, find a place to hide, and do so while the first round of mass chaos abates.

Well, that makes more sense. Also, yikes, you're going to be up to your ears in rabid hipsters and soccer moms if the area should ever happen to go titsup. My condolences.

From what I've been hearing, there have been requests for the PBE patch in various other color schemes.

Photoshop up what you want and post it here.

I'm not with the PBE store, but I thought this thread was needed.

Well Tomorrow I find out if I have any condition on my lower back and knees.
Depending on how bad the conditions are determines if ill ever join the army/reserve/national guard
(probably national guard)

Anybody has stories of how fuck up medically you where and they still let you in.

A list of my injurys.
Herniated Cervical disc (cause me pain once a year but apparently there is some treatment or surgery for it)
Some lower back pain (not sure if it's because of a condition or just bad posture)
Knees doctor suspect i have Chondromalacia patellae (supposedly exercise on the quad area can make this condition not a problem)
I also have pain on my wrist but that's because of a cyst that once the doctor operates will be as new.

I been told the NG Recruiter does shady shit to get people in and if they need you bad enought they may grant the waivers.

Soo.... you think there is anybody more fuck than me?

Fuck.
I was diagnosed with right varicocele. Afterwarda I realized that my right ball kinda sting after running which is one of the side effects of varicocele..

Probem is that a right varicocele is a DQ from meps unless they miracously grant you a waiver.
I will have to get surgery in january and wait six months which means it would show up on my physical and i cannot do the physical before surgery since my urologist saw it at first sight and mepd checks for it.

I been reading and its easy to spot at plainsight and meps checks for it.

Only thing I can do is take the sift asap in case I fail which should not happen I use the six months before enlisting that I have to wait.

By the way, the 160th holds you to the same physical standards as rangers/sf etc.

I havent been in this thread in a while, are you set on flight school or did you have other moses in mind? Cause I cant in good faith recommend you to try for the 160th with all of your current medical issues. I mean its a noble goal but would you rather serve 6 years to a career in a normal unit or get your body snapped in half in a year or two with the 160th?
>> No. 8132 ID: 7b0834

yeah as time passes my body is telling me to nope out of this.

Me and my wife recently got on a motorcycle accident.
She broke her tibia open oblique fracture a few nails and screws later she's slowly recovering.

Nothing happen to me... or so I thought recently started feeling pain in a bunch of places which most likely is from the whipslash from the car that crash into us.

I am pretty sure I wont be able to do 160th with how screw my body is.

I think my dream of flying for the NG is going to have to be postponed until I get better and my wife. Can't leave her like she is now and not with her other problems. Ill probably pick this up in a few years once she gets better and finishes school

Hello all! I hope this is the right thread.

I've been a long-time lurker and always enjoy all the different kinds of conversation and topics all over the boards. They're a blast to go through.

Presently I'm just looking for anything (specifically, soldiers of a more well-developed military) relating to the specified time period. I've always thought that that particular era had some really cool looks it it, before everything got rails on rails on rails and digital (which is also beautiful in its own way).

Anyway, just asking for some help on building up my visual reference folder. Anything is welcome, I'll post a little bit of what I've collected. Vehicles, weapons, gear, uniforms, it's all welcome!
