Hello all! I hope this is the right thread.

I've been a long-time lurker and always enjoy all the different kinds of conversation and topics all over the boards. They're a blast to go through.

Presently I'm just looking for anything (specifically, soldiers of a more well-developed military) relating to the specified time period. I've always thought that that particular era had some really cool looks it it, before everything got rails on rails on rails and digital (which is also beautiful in its own way).

Anyway, just asking for some help on building up my visual reference folder. Anything is welcome, I'll post a little bit of what I've collected. Vehicles, weapons, gear, uniforms, it's all welcome!

Give me a minute and I'll take some pictures of my Combat and Survival books, upload them to a photobucket and link it here. The books themselves are from the late 80's but cover the 60's and 70's as well.

currently inhabiting the period 100 years after the first fokker scourge.
are you feeling it?
i've had this thing for first world war aviation for a long time, i dunno what it is exactly that draws me in. the planes made out of paper and zip ties and armed with nothing but a bow and arrows (later on they got .303) and not quite polished enough to qualify in the team punk category. they look like something put together out of garage sale leftovers. throwing rocks at the enemy in the other plane.
there isn't a published autobiography or diary by a first world war pilot i haven't read, they're some of the best books out there.
i can't be the only one.

this motherfucker painted "certainly not you" on his elevator to taunt enemy pilots.
should this be on the airplane board instead?

I played the old Red Barron PC flight sim back in 1990 along with Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe game in 1991. I really wish that historical flight sims were more popular, especially for portable game consoles like the Sony PSP and Vita.

yeah now that you remind me i liked OG red baron better than the sequel.
i played that one & terminal velocity, they must have been my first flight sims. not even sure if terminal velocity exactly counts in that category. i used one of the .wav or midi files from it from a cell phone ring.

Last night I tried a 24 ounce of the Anderson Valley "Pinchy Jeek Barl" which is a pumpkin ale that has been brewed in bourbon barrels.

It tastes strongly of pumpkin, with a faint smokey taste. It sorta reminds me of pumpkin pie filling.

I would recommend it to anyone that likes pumpkin ales.

This right here was a pleasant surprise. I bought one on a lark and will be buying quite a few more. Has so much toasty bitter goodness that I can sip on it all day and not even worry about it getting warm. In fact, I preferred it a bit warm. The hint of red peppers is a nice touch, too. I've been hit with 5.56 three times dead in the chest. I was in Fallujah and I killed about 16 insurgents before I had to pop in a fresh mag, but a sniper took out my left knee and I collapsed during the reload. Well, needless to say, I was out of action. A bunch of other insurgents started swarming to my location, so I pulled out my KABAR and shanked one of those dirty sand niggers right in the throat, but while this was happening some other Hadji got ahold of my AUG and the fresh mag that I dropped when the sniper nailed me. He loaded it up and tagged me twice in the right lung before I pulled out my Deagle and returned fire as he was squeezing off a third shot. My .50 slug obliterated his gray matter and his third round pierced my left ventricle. Most people would have died, but I just did the mash, I did the monster mash.

No confirmed news reports but it looks like Saudi's just turned twitter off for their country.
"its getting eerily quiet after 4 hours of nonstop freaking out...."
"Indeed, it was "they are attacking Jizan, they are attacking najran, SCUDS.
and now dead dead silence."

Video of a possible scud getting shot down over Jizan by a patriot system only an hour or two ago.
Different video that was uploaded shortly after the above video was posted was uploaded to twitter that was taken down really quick of one of the possible scuds making it though the patriot screen detonating in Jizan hitting a target causing secondary explosion.
Unconfirmed report that "Saudi Arabia is now shelling with artillery & attacking with Apache heli gunships its own bases in Jizan overrun by Yemen RG units."

Looks like Yemen's Houthi's are stepping up their offensive in Saudi Arabia. This could be big, there are already reports of major unrest in Saudi Arabia's Shia populations from the past couple weeks. If Saudi Arabia keeps losing land like this there could be major geopolitical issues.

I despise diets, I think they're stupid.

However, I've noticed I am getting a bit pudgy in my desk driving role, so I've decided to try low carb, adequate protein, high fat and see how it plays out. I started monday and I've dropped about 5 pounds (water weight). I had what I guess was "carb flu" for a day or so, but everything seems to be on an even keel now.

Has anyone else done this? What was your experience and what pitfalls did you encounter?

The aspartame molecule has three components: aspartic acid, phenylalanine and methanol, amino acids swimming in petrochemicals. "It is a powerful metabolic poison," Martini says, "a witches brew of breakdown products. The methanol - wood alcohol- converts to formaldehyde and eventually formic acid (ant sting poison). The breakdown product of diketopiperazine, DKP, is a tumor agent."

Well that's what we think. The studies have yet to prove that for we only have short term studies that say that without any major long term studies to find out if it really is something to avoid.

One short term study I read showed that alcohol sugars in general should be avoided if possible for they fuck with gut bacteria.

SKS's and Saigas alike are getting expensive -- $450 minimum as far as I can tell. AK-47 parts kits are drying up, and most of the AR-15 parts kits I see are kinda junky. So, what would be the most cost-effective longarm for a group of preppers -- or a large extended family, or an open-carry neighborhood patrol -- that wants a common-pattern weapon?

--Removable magazine
--Centerfire rifle cartridge in reasonably common circulation
--Light enough in weight and recoil to be easy to use by everybody from teenagers on up
--Inexpensive as possible

Nice to haves:
--Receivers can be manufactured from 80% finished receivers/flats (by whoever's going to use them, natch. We want to stay legal, here. Just being discreet).
--Takes (or can be modified to take) STANAG magazines (so we can purchase/cannibalize existing police/military stocks)
--Cartridge is .223 (see above)
--Long service life

Right now I'm thinking either:

As previously mentioned I'm getting married at the end of this month so I have zero free time right now but in a couple of months once I'm settled in I'd definitely be down for another meet/ride. anyone that's interested (and in Texas or near by) should post their location and we can find a suitable trail that's not too far for anyone. Let's start with some goulash. Because I love it.
Goulash (Hungarian: gulyás) is a soup or stew of meat, noodles and vegetables, seasoned with paprika and other spices. Originating within the historical Hungarian ethnic area, goulash is also a popular meal in and in Central Europe, Scandinavia and Southern Europe.

But what do you use to make curry spicier? Adding sriracha is always an answer to inject hot spiciness, but may overpower the curry. Recommended for curry add cayenne, red chili flakes, or fresh hot peppers (Scotch Bonnet are the spiciest). If you want to add spice (flavor), but not necessarily heat, try cumin, coriander, black mustard seeds, ginger, garlic -- which are all available at most grocery stores -- or, for Indian curries, curry powder, garam masala (although I find garam masala often overpowers other flavors), asafoetida, cardamom, tumeric, and/or fenugreek. If its a Thai curry, try kaffir lime leaves and lemongrass. https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080730071450AATsDgB

File 142603979232.jpg - (442.68KB , 1600x1172 , curry Chicken Tikka Masala served with naan bread,.jpg )
I would make simple chicken curry with curry blocks or curry mix in a jar.
- Prepare a pot of rice (1 cup rice boiled in 2 cups water for about 20 minutes) measure a half cup of uncooked rice per person. White Rice: 18 to 25 minutes, Brown Rice: 30 to 40 minutes, Wild Rice: 45 to 60 minutes.
- Brown boneless, skinless chicken breasts (cheap frozen stuff in a bag) in oil in a tall frying pan. When browned, take out and slice and tear them apart. Don't cut them straight into cubes, as they become tough, cut the breasts in a slant into diagonal slices.
- Fry onions and sliced peppers.
- Add chicken back into pan to cook thoroughly.
- Add curry sauce or curry block with water.
- Add garlic and whatever spices you like.
Serve on rice and enjoy. Add soy sauce for taste.

A cheaper variant of this is to brown, slice and fry up chicken breasts with onion and some soy sauce and when it's about done, dunk a lot of sriracha sauce on it with minced garlic (if you have any) and serve on rice.

- Chicken Tikka Masala curry served with naan bread, an onion bhaji and basmati rice.

Hey all, we have a slight problem with the Felix patch. Since Felix is a well known copyrighted character, multiple manufacturers have refused to make the patch with the character's image without the consent of the copyright holder.

I'm working on a way around this and will keep those of you waiting on the design updated here. Right now though, expect the OD green and Arid PBE patches to arrive first.
