All the old rifles I've got in the last 3-4 months
L to R
Marlin 1893, Type 38 Arisaka, 1918 SMLE, 1910 Swede Mauser, 1950 Indian Enfield, 1942 M39, 1927 91/30.

The 91/30 has a red band painted around the barrel, a red N or Z on the other side of the butt, and the buttplate is painted black. Anyone know what this stuff means?

can you post a pic with a hicap inserted? ive been waiting impatiently for sig to release their 20rd sigpro mags but im starting to think itll never happen... has there been any question of reliability so far? theres a thread on the internets about a guy modding a ruger p-series hicap to fit in a sigpro, but i had no luck with that.

shown is my 2009, well worn thanks to a cheap kydex holster, with: 2 10rd blued mags, a factory parkerized 15 rd mag, and one of mecgar's new 17rd blued finish hicaps. a converted 30rd mag or two would really set this piece off.

My ordeal of obtaining a semi-auto Krink has finally come to an end.

NoDak Spud NDS-2SF receiver
Tula 86' krink kit
saiga 5.45 barrel

Build done by Tac 47 Industries
Overall build quality looks good, parkerized finish with teflon topcoat. Stock lockup is very solid. Action is average smoothness. Minor nitpicks include exposed leaf spring at rear of lower handguard, minor blemish on receiver should've been sanded prior to coat, hammer was polished, but there were stray grind marks.

Now for the big complaints:
13 months to build the damn gun (was quoted 6 months)
11 months for Form 4 (i asked to start the Form 4 after the Form 2 was approved, so the transfer could go on while the gun was being built, which didn't happen)
1.5 months while Tac 47 sat on the approved Form 4 before contacting me.

Extremely poor communication. At the 6 month mark, I started emails and leaving messages. Emails were not responded to, messages were not returned (even when left with a store employee). Wasn't until the 10 month mark that I got responses to emails after I threatened to cancel the build and file a complaint with the BBB.

Hit me with a bullshit 10$ charge for preparing and mailing the Form 4.

Used my gun as a display piece at local gun shows!!!

Picked up a new .22, a Savage 187N, no serial number, for $50 today. Pictured here sandwiched between my other rimfires, a Winchester Model 1890 and a Norinco ATD-22.

Apparently, on Monday, some lady walked into my LGS and said she just moved and found the 187N in the attic of her new house and didn't want it, so she GAVE it to the gun shop, and the owner let me walk away with it for $50. Cheapest gun purchase I've ever made.

I am working on an AR pistol too, this still needs: barrel, front sight, gas tube, Griffin Armament M4SD-II, delta ring, buffer tube, buffer, buffer spring, Magpul MOE+ or MOE-K grip and SB-15

I was surprised the Vltor CASV-LE limits what kind of rear sights you can have, I was going to have the MATech on it but it just will not fit, so KAC Micro 300 it is. Now I wish I kept some instead of selling every one of those off.

You managed to snag an alloy frame BHP? I'm jealous - they always sell out before I can get one when AIM Surplus or another vendor has them in stock.

My MkIII is a work in progress. I've had a trigger job done, C&S no-bite hammer and sear installed, and Meprolight night sights added. Next is a reverse two tone cerakote job and, if I'm feeling ambitious, Craig Spegel grips to replace the slightly loose fitting Hogue Rosewoods.

I actually got mine several years ago, but I paid way to much for it. I almost cried when I saw the price that AIM had on them.

It's been a good shooter. Funny, when the gun was disassembled for cerakote, we found that the firing pin retaining plate had broken. That cost me $30 after shipping from numrich.

It legally classifies as an 'other'-type firearm, similar to a stripped AR-15 receiver.

Franklin Armory has an AR-15 type 'other' firearm, with a barrel less than 16" but an OAL greater than 26", and a vertical foregrip. Since it's not legally a 'handgun' or a 'longgun' according to the ATF, it's an 'other', and does not classify as a NFA AOW due to the vertical foregrip.

To do that without a stamp, the shotgun has to be transferred as a pistol. A pistol shotgun does not have a barrel length requirement, however it still have the 26 OAL requirement. The bird head grip takes up the rest of the slack left by the shorter barrel to meet the 26 OAL.

Soren: You're selling your Citadel 1911? How much?
DooD: $200.
Soren: I'll take it.

*A week later*

DooD: You know what? I don't feel like making you pay full price, so it's yours for $100.

*I'm smart enough to NOT argue with this, even though it's a steal at twice the price.*

Even if I don't get a chance to trade this for an M&P9 with a 5" barrel like I want to, I can still turn this around and immediately triple my investment. Hell, if I find the right buyer I could probably get $400 for it.

Finally bought an M39.

This one is a 1943 Civil Guard rifle mfg by Sako. Correct wartime stock etc. I was bringing in a .22 WMR marlin to put on consignment and inspect a very tempting non-counterbored Finn capture 1934 Tula capture, but it subsequently sold the evening before after I had first spotted it which was for the best. Then this thing caught my eye, had one of those cheesy canvas Chinese AK slings that were everywhere and on everything back in the day. Second time I've literally had to rip the leather tabs off one of those they were so dried out.

The trigger on this thing is so much better than my 3 sniper/ex sniper nuggets it's not even funny. The bolt is also incredibly slick (still have a lot of cosmoline to boil out of the whole shebang). Barrel is in VG condition. Rifling is still sharp with just a hint of well maintained use which is what I prefer in surplus guns.

I was really happy to find this when finally taking it apart for inspection a couple minutes ago. We antique now.

I've been looking for a good Finn nugget of any type for years, but it seemed like any time I had money none were to be had. Pat at gunsnammo.com seems to be running a little dry as of late and gunbroker is a joke. Some local collector that works for a competitor store has been bringing in a ton of Finn this and that mosins and Swede mausers to yet another (brick and mortar type) store I personally frequent. No idea why. Anywho, I'm glad I waited and really feel like I got what I wanted at a reasonable price.

I bought the Citadel here >>78965 for $100, sold it for $400, and then bought an S&W M&P9L off armslist with the proceeds (and some extra).

150 rounds of various cheap brands through it, and I'm already a huge fan. The recoil's easy to manage, the high-viz green front sight makes the right focus very easy, and the long trigger pull (compared to my 1911) made me realize within a few rounds that I have a tendency to jerk the trigger, so my shooting is already improving.

I'm glad I've been pickingup 9mm brass at the range for a while now, it's going to make the imminent reloading supplies purchase much, much cheaper.

The only picture I have of "my" old M10 Carbine (C8 IUR, I think Colt Canada calls it).
Upgraded features compared to the M96 includes:
16" bull barrel, compared to the 14.5" M4 cut barrel on the 96. Adds weight, because front heavy guns are nice.

RAILZ, which makes the rifle substantially heavier for no benefit. Because front heavy = best heavy.

Bigger latch on the charging handle. Was nice when you had to operate the weapon, but had a nasty habit of snagging on everything and sometimes pulling the weapon out of battery.

Ambi selector, no problems with it, should be retro fitted to all M96s, IMO.

No front sight on the gas block. Might be an improvement if you like the Magpul BIUS.

Nicer trigger. Just a general improvement.

5 times the cost of a regular M96.

Malfunction occurred on some range week. Mushy trigger, turn, looked like a double feed, lock, won't go all the way to the read, round became lodged behind the BCG, had to wait for weapon mechanics the next day.

Yes, it's dirty as fuck.

So glad I did, just looking over the receiver and construction of the rifle I'm really sad they're not going to be imported anymore - it's just beautiful. Got some parts on order from CSS to convert it next week.

If the TRG magazines used in the CTR weren't nearly $200, I'd be really, REALLY tempted to get one. As such, that's almost a non-starter - I know you don't need lots of mags for long range shooting, but I'd like to have at least one backup.

>>81227
That's unfortunate, but they're still cool guns. How do you like the cylinder release? I've never handled one, but it seems pretty well laid out.

As for the S&Ws, I say go for it. They have triggers much like SRT-equipped SIGs, and they're well made and smooth. The ergonomics are stuck in the 80s, but they're still a well made all metal handgun for <$450 and shoot well. The 39xx and 69xx series compacts are still some of the best compact carry guns money can buy.

The cylinder release takes some getting used to, but you can run it just as well as the push forward/backward releases once you do. All I pretty much do is cradle the firearm with the support hand, pull downward with my thumb, and push the cylinder out with my fingers.

I'll definitely take a look at them S&W autoloaders. I love metal guns too much, and my dad gave me his S&W 2206 .22LR pistol so I've got to repay the favor one of these days. Thanks!

Also, dem delicious Smitties.

Finally joined the AR club. And the semi-auto shotgun club.

The bottom rifle is a Jager AP-85 and yes, it's supposed to represent a FAMAS. Mitchell imported those into the States as the "MAS-22". They had some other... interesting looking rifle clones, like the AP-75 (their version of the AR-18) and the seemingly super rare AP-82 (supposed to be a .22LR L85). They also made some more normal looking rifles visually based on the M16A1 (AP-74), AK (AP-80) and Galil (AP-84), mostly in .22 LR, though there seem to be some AP-74 and -75 in .32 ACP.

Px4 Storm 9mm with the 20 round mag in place. Extremely underrated pistol with a great out of the box da/sa trigger. It has the kind of trigger I always thought HKs should have had given their price.

I don't mind the slide mounted safety decocker, but I'm going to do a type g decocker only mod in the future.

Got it from buds, payed a little extra for the Atlanta police marking cause I live there. Fits this Beretta 92 holster like it was made for it. This is my first polymer, striker fired, and first 40. Overall in great looking shape a tiny bit of rust on one of the mag lips.

Yes they did, actually. I heard about that a lot on the reviews or the LC9. The first shot was very snappy, but I got it under control after about 50 rounds. It's a lot easier to control with the 9 round mag.

Love your choice in firearms. I got the LC9s because my Glock 17 is just too big to conceal carry.

A PSA B5 Systems LPK ($55)
And a KAC pistol buffer kit ($58)
So even aftery FFL fee, I'm out less than $165. Now I need to get the upper, and slap an arm brace on this thing. Not only will it help balance the weight, but it looks way better IMHO.

Thank god for the offset mount, otherwise it would never fit. The 3-10x42 SHV would probably fit perfectly. Can you still load it with a stripper clip with the scope mounted? Did you have the scope lying around and decided to mount it to the gun for the lulz, or did you buy it for K31?

I'd love to see how tight a group you can post with that much glass on it.

Actually, I bought it initially for my Swedish Mauser, but the mounts were too far forward and the objective didn't clear the secondary mount. So I bought the K31 clamp-on scope mount.

I liked my K31 more, anyway. Unfortunately, clips won't work with the parallax/illumination turret and my expediently done brass deflector in the way.

Considering buying a second K31 perhaps as a host for my diopter set, at least...

And yes, thank God for the offset mount. it barely clears the rear sight base and front handguard...

You bought a Nightforce for a surplus rifle? You're my hero.

>I liked my K31 more, anyway. Unfortunately, clips won't work with the parallax/illumination turret and my expediently done brass deflector in the way.
That's unfortunate, but not too surprising. You need to pick up a Zfk 55 now, so you can still load with the stripper clips even with the scope mounted.

>Considering buying a second K31 perhaps as a host for my diopter set, at least...
Do it. Diopters are too cool to let sit and collect dust.

>You bought a Nightforce for a surplus rifle? You're my hero.

I love my surplus rifles. New production is great and all, but I'll never stop loving these old guns. The Nightforce actually was just a birthday present to myself. I was looking at Zeiss, Schmidt & Bender, Leupold, and Vortex scopes before settling on buying the Nightforce. It was only a couple hundred bucks above the others, so I figured I might as well.

Doesn't help the first scope I've ever looked through was a Nightforce a couple years ago on my coworker's rifle. Then my uncle had a Sako Finnbear with a cheap ass scope that cost me a deer because I couldn't get the eye relief just right. I knew then that quality glass isn't something that should be overlooked.

>I had a 3" Model 60, but my friend fell in love with it and bought it off of me.

Meant to post this earlier, one of Police trade in S&W Model 10-10s that Buds has right now. Typical cop gun, rough(ish) exterior with a gorgeous bore and a tight lock up. And this I stumbled across at a gunshow today, Smith and Wesson 3rd Model Safety Hammerless in 32S&W, 182xxx serial number puts it around 1908-1915(I think). That finish looks even better in person, a little honest wear and a couple dings but it's original, solid lock up on all points. The box of ammo came with it, has a note written on the flap about it being purchased from some store in Mayfield Heights Ohio in 1963, weird but I wasn't about to turn down ammo. Also has some of the previous owners reloads with it, nope nope nope.

Yes they are. I've wanted to build an M16A1 clone with modern furniture for a while now. Bonus point for the light mount as well - way to keep an old school setup practical.

I don't understand people who buy A1 ARs and put tacticool stuff, Magpul furniture and all that on them. Why not buy a flat top in the first place?

Anyway, just got back from the gun show. Not quite what I expected to find, but hey, why not?

...So because I put a magpul handguard on it, you're wondering why I didn't get a flat-topped AR? What?
Maybe I like shooting irons and think that fixed sights will yield better accuracy, and the A1 carry handle is the best design for ruggedness and weight?

How do you like the AUG? I bought a MSAR 5 years ago, and it just didn't work as well as it should have (loved the ergos though). So I traded it for a HK P30 and a Ruger LCP, then sold the LCP as the trigger was total ass.

However, lately I've been feeling the itch to get another one, but this time a real deal Steyr. I just don't want to end up with another expensive carbine that has to go back to the factory so it works properly. Pic unrelated my first SBR, and It works the way it's supposed to.

I like the AUG a lot, but I've only shot the AUG and dry fired FN2000 and Tavor

The 3 bullpup I've handled side by side ergo I rank FN2000> AUG > TAVOR. Control (as in safety, mag release, bolt release etc) Tavor > FN2000 > AUG

I really like it, was going to get an m&p 9c, but this was calling me.
Lightly used, but I plan to pimp it out anyway, and get the 9mm barrel for fun.

You can get lightly used gen 3 9/.40 glocks for around $400-425, so considering a $20 box of hollow points, you did ok.

Commercial 5.45 is still readily available. Surplus 7n6 is still out there, but it's price has been going up.

(not a desirable feature for a double action). The Chiappa Rhino (despite its non conventional looking) have very low felt recoil and the muzzle don't rise as much (due to the barrel location). But nice piece though.

It's a Ruger GP100, but not a regular one. It's one of the Wiley Clapp limited editions.

The best part about it is the Novak sights on it which are... just purely amazing and easy to use. It also has a grip that more like the older style GP100s but it has some different contouring and stippling. Fits my hands quite nicely and it's comfortable to hold.

Haven't gotten around to shooting it yet. But one thing I've always wanted is a .357 revolver and this was just in-between too big to potentially carry and too small to have fun with on the range. The addition of the Novak sights sold me.

By the way, fuck whoever decided that Skype/Facetime use cameras on tablets were all that was necessary. This was literally the only working camera I had and taking pictures without any way to tell if it's in frame is a bitch.

Made a shelf for my stack on 14 gun cabinet. Now I've just got to figure out a good way to store the rifles. The posts that come with the cabinet are too tall for carbines like the SCAR.

Protip: Don't let the cross eyed guy at home depot make your cuts. The shelves are +/- 1/8th. Oh well, just nail it together.

I swapped out the small soft rubber grips for medium walnut grips on my Italian Chiappa Rhino 200DS snub-nosed .357 Magnum.
Really prefer the feel of those laser-etched wood grips and they match the brown form-fitted leather holster better.
The aluminum speed-loaders were a bit pricey ($19), but nice.
The 6 o'clock barrel design really does keep muzzle-flip and recoil down. Rarely shoot it, though, as I am worried about breaking the delicate hammer mechanism.

It's a steel clamp-on scope mount from Swiss Products LLC.
http://www.swissproductsllc.com/

They make all sorts of permanent and non-permanent additions for the K31 and 1911 carbines. I picked mine up from Grafs, but I think you can get it from Brownells too. I like it so far, but the biggest problem I have with it is that they make it for 3/8" dovetail which really limits your scope ring selection pretty much specifically to .22 scope rings. According to Latigo, he specifically chose the 3/8" dovetail over a standard picatinny rail since it would be too wide and it would impede proper cartridge ejection.

Cartridge ejection is clearly an issue with my rifle with the illumination and parallax adjustment turret on the left side, but I have resolved this issue with a little bit of ingenuity. Hue hue

I do have to ask, are those 3/8" dovetail to picatinny adapters worth it? I figure I'd be putting too many points of failure on this gun...

---

Also, please excuse the shitty collage. I figure it's the best way not to shit up the thread with too many pictures of my K31.

I see it, that's a good fit. I would just watch and be sure that it doesn't scoot back under recoil ever so slowly; that can wreck a good scope when it starts wedging against the handguard.

If that mount has a recoil groove it's all good tho. I'm happy they make clamp mounts for K31s too, or else we'd see drilled K31s a lot and that would be a damn shame.

That would be wonderful if you could do a field/detail strip thread in /st/, I'd like to see the differences between the 41 and the 2206. As far as shooting goes, there really isn't any recoil since the bore axis is so freakishly low. With the long barrel, this thing certainly is more accurate than I am.

>>88644
I'm not sure. My 2206 has the nut for the wrench, but I think it's only there so you can replace the barrel. Either twisting this removes the barrel or the nut is merely a thread protector, but I'm not so sure. I have the wrench, but I haven't attempted to remove the barrel just yet. The Vortex 1-4 works okay enough. I normally would have gone with a ACOG or some such, but the shit velocity from such a short barrel makes the trajectory not match established reticule stadia lines well.

This way, with the exposed turrets the shooter can dial in drops and wind out to 500 with minimal drama. Props to the guys at Lewis Machine and Tool for assembling such a great upper.

Well yes, the rubber grip significantly dampens recoil. The biggest downside for me is that I like to ride high against the beavertail (for lack of a better word). If you shoot say 75-100 or so heavy loads, it starts taking skin off my hand. For mild & normal loads it's really no issue.

That said, it's a lot classier to have Nill Griffe on it.
But the increase in perceived kick is substantial.

I don't shy away from a bit of a kick though. I learned how to shoot revolver with a .44Mag and left over hunting ammo.

The skin peeling is a bigger annoyance to me than the more robust recoil.

If thats one of the colored laminate stocks, you're going to be basically restocking the piece.

Otherwise "MEK and lots of it"..

Did you adjust the clamp? You have to adjust the clamp to provide the proper tension when the lever is thrown.

To do so, look at the underside of the mount, at the lever. There should be an oval shaped piece of metal there at the hinge on the lever with a hole in it. Use a screwdriver and flip this piece 90 degrees, and you should be able to slide the big hole onto the screw head and remove it from the rest of the latch. Now you can pull the lever off of the tiny gear thing. Now test fit the tension of it by moving the lever to different locations on the gear thing until you get it nice and snug (but not TOO tight of course). Once you find the right spot, reassemble it.

It was a Walther sort of day.

My friend picked up the PPX as a cheap suppressor host.
Trigger was better than I expected after dry firing. Break was fairly crisp, but it has a fair bit of slop in the takeup. Reset is pretty bad.

Also, PPQ and PPX magazines are not interchangeable, both guns have a different grip angle, for starters.

I picked up a sabertooth rifle chassis recently. They are a solid milled aluminum rifle chassis, similar to what you see for the remignton 700 (like the ones from MDT, XLR, etc.

It is overkill for an SKS but fun things are fun.

No permanent modifications required at all for the rifle, besides simply taking off the bayonet and the handguard wood.

I was originally going to and probably still will get a Leupold VX3 3.5-10x40 with CDS but the Meopro was too cheap to pass up as a spare throw around scope for the next Tikka or X bolt.

Got a Hogue 12" LOP stock for my Mossberg. Is loads better than those AR-type stocks that don't actually reduce LOP very much, Isn't butt-ugly and doesn't make it impossible to use the safety. Also the recoil pad is broad and moderately squishy, should make magnum slugs less awful.

Mossberg factory stock for scale.

I've officially joined the Czech cult (the CZ455FS doesn't count, and my old Vz.58 wasn't actually built by CZ).

The gun is a CZ75 SP01 Tactical that Blackjack and another of my close friends got me as a wedding gift. I sent the gun off to CZ Custom and had them make the following changes:
-CZ custom hammer/sear
-trigger job with short reset disconnector
-CZ85 Combat trigger
-HTAC tritium sights (which look a bit derpy from certain angles, because they're intended for the Shadow rear sight cut, but they work well otherwise)

It's basically a Shadow with a decocker, and it's fantastic.

I did a thing to my 455FS today. As part of CZ's Black Friday sale, I picked up a 24" 455 Military Trainer barrel in .22LR. Sure they're just lowly IJ-70s, but mine's never complained once over two decades and thousands upon thousands of rounds. My first pistol and still my favorite at the end of the day. Original rear sight too, it's always held it's zero just fine and never fallen apart.

So I got the Rhino. It's designed by the same guy and it looks cool!

It fucking broke after ~50 rounds of .38 and some dry fires. Doesn't strike cartridges any more. Either the actual firing pin broke or some kind of automatic safety took a shit.

Also the grip is flat in the front and uncomfortable as shit.

I haven't decided if I'm going to sell it as soon as it comes back from Chiappa. (Haven't contacted them yet.)

I can ask if it's still available for you if you want? For that much, I'm not sure if it's viable to spend that wad of dough before import/export/shipping fees; especially when you can just wait for someone in the states that's strapped for cash.

Sure it's a security company trade-in, but it's still a solid shooter.

My vintage artisinal hand-crafted non-GMO gluten-free assault vest from Čelinac, Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina finally arrived. I'll do a more in-depth post about it in /g/.

So I went to a gun show this afternoon, and I was feeling lucky.

I saw a current production WASR with straight sights and gas tube (at least so far as I can determine by eyeball) and non-mangled rivets and a trigger that feels pretty decent in dry-firing, and the magazine latch didn't cut my fingers when I put a steel mag in and took it out. So I talked the dealer down to $589 plus tax.

It came with a pair of plastic mags (one Tapco, one Magpul) which I traded plus some cash for five slightly rusty generic Warsaw Pact surplus steel 30-rounders.

As it has a threaded muzzle and detent, I think I want to put a flash suppressor of some kind on it. I was thinking about the Tapco copy of the old RPK short birdcage flash suppressor since I'd heard it spoken well of in a couple of forums. I am also thinking of seeing whether I can find someone who likes the pale blond wood with the glossy finish who wants to trade me an old style matte oil finished laminated wood stock and handguard set. The grip I will be keeping--I was afraid it was going to have an annoying sharp mold line all the way around it, but it doesn't, mysteriously enough.

I expected gobs and cobs of Warsaw Pact surplus Cosmolene inside it but in fact when I unpacked it, it was nearly dry except for a faint, faint coating of orange-red grease (which I assume to be Cosmolene) on the exterior of the bolt and bolt carrier. I wiped those parts down, put a couple drops of heavy duty 75w90 gear oil on the rails, the bolt lug, the slots on the sides of the carrier, and into the fire control group, then reassembled.

Sooner or later I'll get to the range with it.

Came without the cleaning rod, but I guess it can't be helped.

My camera is too small to capture the entire thing.

Toppest Keks! Nice USP, eventually I'd like to pick one up myself.

Glad to hear you finally got your stock set up appropriately. After what (I guess) you spent on the rifle they should have been on it when things didn't arrive like they should have.

Pic is first complete(ish) build of 2016. I've had this thing malingering for a few years and finally decided to get it squared away. It's the first build where I did everything but bend the flat and do the engraving (although I did weld the rails in). It's also cool that my name is engraved as the manufacturer.

Pretty proud of how it came out, even if I need to touch up a few spots with some more duracoat.
