Yeah, SWAT4 with Sherrifs Mod.

Call me fucked in the head but I loved SWAT 3 GOTY more than 4. Especially after I learned how to use the Hammer Editor. Made a mini Black Mesa map and rigged up the a Gordon Freeman bad guy.

I just played through all of SWAT 4 & expansion with Elite Force mod.
It combines the SWAT 4 and Stetchkov Syndicate into one campaign and improves the officer and suspect AI. You can also find trapped doors in maps with barricaded suspects and collectable drug baggies where junkies live.

There's also a bunch of changes to equipment, weight slows you down your walking speed and bulk changes how fast you do things like arrest people or deploy equipment. It also changes weapon behavior with more ammo types and less-lethal weapons can now injure or kill people if you use it wrong, so no more bean bag headshots for funsies.

See the v5 changelog for the full details.

Some people look out too much for some "survival" content, open world like in STALKER, and when they see this game, they become kinda disappointed because it is nothing like any survival. If anything, my guess, this game's structure reminds too much of HL2 - overall very linear and detailed story, lots of side events and places, and some scripted events. But there's nothing wrong with that, it only makes it more enjoyable.

Alot of people went in expecting STALKER and while I love Metro its no STALKER. No open world, very linear, and much less difficulty depending on the setting to where its far more superman vs peons then STALKER on lower difficulties .

I still think Metro captures some of the spirit of STALKER thanks to their shared history and somewhat similar premise but Metro is certainly no STALKER.

Of course there is no more STALKER. Surviarium which looks like micro-transaction trash multiplayer only garbage, STALKER 2 that will happen around the same time as Half Life 3 and probably won't even be good considering most of GSC left, and the various STALKER mods for Source and the CryEngine that are dead, are dying, or will be dead.

Truly the Zone is a lonely place for a STALKER.

really for me stalker ad metro scratch a different itch and im fine with that, one is open, one is linear and i like both for different reasons.

Certainly is true. The difference between the play styles makes them very different beasts. STALKER is an open world game along the lines of Skyrim or Beth Fallout where you can walk around, go make trouble or even just sit down and enjoy the sights. I can think of moments that made me go "wow" in almost all those games. Seeing the Mall in Fallout 3, seeing the Ferris Wheel in SoC, seeing the Ranger Monument in Vegas, the view of the drained river or swamp or whatever with all the rusting boats in CoP, and the Pyrdwyn coming in in Fallout 4. Strangely cannot think of any wow moments that stick out in Skyrim or CS. I can think of one for a Skyrim mod, the underground city in Enderal.

Games like Metro or the Cowadootys or any other linear game rarely have a chance to admire the scenery, to take a moment to breath, to really feel like you are in control rather then having some unseen puppeteer directing you to the next battle. Its like an on the rails shooter but with a tiny bit more freedom.

I mean I'm not saying thats a bad thing, its just sometimes its not what you want, sometimes you want a story told to you in between shooting fuckers in the brain meats and sometimes you want to explore a world in between shooting fuckers in the brain meats.

Only been playing a few hours but so far it's entertaining, albeit very quirky. Some of the pics I've come across over the years are starting to make sense.

I'll have to give it another try. I tried it years ago and while I liked the style of everything, the bugs and respawning enemies killed my interest. (pretty sure they kept respawning anyway)

I keep hoping the game will be remade with a real budget but so far that hasn't happened. (it did for Pathologic, another game with a cult following by a small European developer)

You can adjust pretty much everything difficulty-wise in the game options. There's general difficulty, enemy respawn rate and enemy reinforcement limit, AI accuracy, AI sound detection rate, AI sight detection rate. Making it harder (I think) gives more brouzouf.

Since X-Com games were rather popular around here, here's something similar but different:

Not sure I like the character design but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt since I largely liked the recent X-Com gameplay.

Beta for kickstarter backers dropped today.
Only AI skirmish games available for now.

Played 3 games so far. Not too bad. Took me about 30 minutes to figure everything out.
1) Weapon balance is different than tabletop.
2) AI is really dumb, especially for light mechs.
3) Campaign, multiplayer, and mechlab not available for beta at the moment.
4) It's got a reasonable selection of mechs, although some choices are odd, like the Kintaro. It's not a succession wars era mech, aside from heirlooms or a few gifted by Comstar to the Dracs. Of the unseen, it has the locust, griffin, shadow hawk, and battlemaster so far.

And this is a decent outcome for a Kickstarter / early access game. Which is why I don't.

I don't even preorder big budget games. I wait till it's out, see what the interenets says about it, then buy or not. (Which was a good call on Mass Erect.)

The answer to the picture's question is: Console plebs.

Fallout 4 is by far my favorite. I put a good amount of hours into Tactics. Like 70 hours into FO3. 81 into New Vegas. 524 into FO4 and still going.

I really love Fallout 4. 1) Rampaging. 2) Mods. 3) Settlements.

I've got a whole stack of newer games I've been ignoring to play more Fallout 4.

I have problems with Fallout 4, though not settlement building like many (beyond it being too limited), but yeah I'd say its my favorite of the Fallouts. I love New Vegas but its limited by Fallout 3's combat system and Vegas itself being disappointing mostly (though it finally gave players a place to fuck around in a business suit without looking like a idiot).

Fallout 4 looks pretty damn good even on my i5 system, the combat is smooth as butter, and the companion system is FAR superior to Fallout 3 plus the companions are better themselves.

My complaints really were lack of weapons, DLC being halfway garbage, and the patented Bethesda problem of your character being the leader of every fucking thing but nothing to show for it really and not able to do anything with it.

I've now put 83 more hours in Fallout 4 then Skyrim (which I put in 804 hours) and while that doesn't come anywhere close to the insane 1613 hours I've put in New Vegas (really shows how much of a social life I have) I can truthfully say other then playing some mods like Project Brazil and The Frontier I've put all the time into NV that I want to. I feel the same way about 3, have very little intention of playing it again, atleast not for a long, long while.

Fallout 4 I haven't even came close to burning through and know the best mods haven't came out.

I do hope Obsidian comes out with another Fallout game. Beth makes them good and Obsidian makes them even better. I just wish they'd collab, Obsidian does good writing but didn't make the best environment while Beth makes stunning fun to explore environments but doesn't have the best writing. Obsidian sticks to the west while Beth sticks to the east.

They need to meet in the middle and make Fallout Detroit. If for nothing else then all the jokes about how a post apocalyptic Detroit looks better and has less crime then IRL Detroit.

No one is forcing you to buy these games. Just please don't support companies which buy up franchises just to rape everything it stands for.

>That's not silly, that's retrofuturistic?

Retrofuturistic, which is silly. Though thats not a bad thing by a lot. I in particular love 80s style retrofuture. Music practically ripped from the actions movies of the decade like done by Power Glove and Carpenter Brut, cheesy shows like Moonbeam City and Kung Fury, and one of my favorite video games ever set in the future year of 2007, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon. But all the neon lights and electronic music is silly as fuck but thats one of the things that makes its awesome.

Just the same Fallout with its 50s inspired aesthetic mixed with what the 50s that the future would look like, advanced robots and mainframe computers running detailed simulations and human like AIs with vacuum tubes, nuclear everything, space exploration, and good old fashioned Cold War paranoia. Its so fucking unique and awesome.

>There's some slapstick, but the most of it is nihilistic, dark, and ironic. Most of the slapstick moments were actively induced by the player though. Needing extremely high LCK , or incredibly low INT.

It was still there, still part of the game. Even in later Beth titles most of the really silly stuff is confined to certain moments, you can play the games completely seriously (as I do, maybe too seriously in the case of New Vegas, I go a bit wacky hunting Legion). I've played Fallout 4 completely seriously, full immersion with no breaking of suspension.......until the game crashes. Wouldn't be a Bethesda game without crashes.

I do think they need to do more for low INT characters, not have someone dumber then a short bus supermutant become leader of the Institute or be able to hack computers.

>Then why should people care about your complaints?

I never said anyone should, but I'd appreciate it?

>Think about the trials others face before you speak of your own.

You're kinda missing the point. I don't care about the games mentioned and I'm not perpetuating the trend which you're commenting on by simply not buying the game mentioned, so what exactly am I doing wrong?

>Most of the NMA seem to be old school gamers, even tabletop gamers, not really down with fast paced action.

I was a hardcore Counterstrike player. Is that a fast paced first person shooter enough?

It's not about us not being down with fast paced action, it's about making the game into something it was never intended to be? Make an offshoot, sure. No problem. But making it a sequel and tell us the old way is dead? Well fuck you.
