Blah. So I was never crazy about Quake and UT multiplayer. This is it. Except now with shitty framerate and peer-to-peer lobbies.

Even worse than peer-to-peer console tier bullshit: The games are like 6 minutes long with 3 minutes of downtime between matches. I fucking hate that shit.

Sadly, no strafe-jumping any more and nothing to replace it with.

>You mean BF3/COD style hit markers?
No, I mean Quake Live hit markers - they display dealt damage on top of the enemy. On one hand, you cant really see them if they are off-screen, and second, there's actually a hitbox, so you can occasionally get head shots - they are displayed in yellow rather than standard red.

>What it is used for?
Not really something important other than some bonuses and a couple of weapons, and skin patches. It takes time to adapt to the game anyway, so I don't think it's a bad feature, and amount of customization is mind-boggling.

Seriously speaking, I would like ID to make this game and especially multiplayer a bit harder (or rather, dynamic), because the urge to GIT GUD is the only thing that can hold you there on later stages of the progress like that.

After playing more realistic MP offerings on PC, or even console, a la Last of Us, etc. I have no real desire to go back to arena type arcade combat.

And this is coming from someone who grew up with Doom, Wolf 3d, and Duke Nukem 3d, etc.

Normally I just play single player games on the normal difficulty, because I don't care, but somebody mentioned they were playing it on Ultra-Violence difficulty level, so I went for it.

I'll believe it. That probably doesn't include the secrets and easter eggs.

I got the steam key from cdkeys.com. Which sounds like a scam but is surprisingly legit. I got Farrout 4 and DOOOOOM from there, paid with paypal.

DOOM was $37.99 Saturday, $39.99 today.

As long as they're a authorized reseller like Greenman or Bundlestars it's probably good, though one time I had to use a Brazilian VPN to activate a game. It's the sketchy sites like G2A which will get your bank info stolen by Russian mobsters in exchange for a CD key purchased with a stolen credit card or just plain doesn't work. (and of course they'll offer to sell you "insurance" for the key)

I actually got this game recently for around 30. And it.......is awesome. A fun game to play, very old school in alot of ways. It does what Duke Nukem Forever tried to do but actually succeeds at it.

The combat is gloriously insane, the environments are beautifully rendered even on my getting old system, and while I might look like Master Chief's half brother I certainly don't act like him. Pretty amazing the attitude I can have without saying a word.

Runs nice despite again not having the best system. The occasional framerate drop but they are few and far between.

My only real complaint is its a bit repetitive. Of course the original Doom was repetitive but that was 20 years ago and this is The Current Year. Doom not4 has a similar playstyle to original Doom, go into room, kill everything, find key and move on. The stupid Far Cry style challenges and the occasional game of Super Turbo Turkey Puncher do help break up the repetitive nature as do some of the secrets but having put 9 hours in I wouldn't say I'm bored but I'm not as gung ho to slap back on my Mjolnir armor and dick slap some demons as I was at 3 hours or even 6.

Haven't tried out snap-map or multiplayer yet. Will probably try the snap-map after I'm done with the single player. Heard you can build custom single player levels which I used to nigger rig with a WAD editor for original Doom and console commands for Doom 3. Probably won't try the multiplayer as not a fan of multiplayer games.

Game is definitely worth 30 just for the singleplayer and maybe more if you are a multiplayer gamer.

Now if only I could ever figure out why the fuck I can't seem to get fucking Doom 3 BFG Edition to fucking work.

>this is The Current Year
It's better than RAMIREZ DO EVERYTHING that all other games boil down to. Or rather, it's pretty much the same except for not being apologetic about it.

Also, it's not like the original Doom was fun for 9 hours straight, but it was the kind of game you'd keep coming back to for short sessions, even now over 20 years later.

File 148255234781.jpg - (47.92KB , 680x734 , 1c4.jpg )
The Current Year "Do everything" games tend to have bits to break up the game. Its not just "kill everything" non-stop, there are other types of gameplay. Even the Ramirez do everything game has sections where you are doing drone warfare, playing snipah, having set missions beyond "kill everything" and even parts you get to take a breather but are still playing the game and not just having some slightly interactive infodump cutscene.

Now of course Cowadooty games aren't superior but they do have going for them the ability to keep someone hooked for the entirety of its anemic campaign, where they can play it non-stop without getting bored.

>Also, it's not like the original Doom was fun for 9 hours straight, but it was the kind of game you'd keep coming back to for short sessions

I'm not playing it for 9 hours straight, I've been playing it an hour or two and taking a break. I'm usually at my playtime limit after a couple hours. about the time my ass starts falling asleep, the adrenaline stops flowing, and the spice....I mean bladder must flow.

Though I couldn't even play 9 hours straight even if I wanted to. Being an adult unfortunately means my time is wasted working, sleeping for work, and doing adult things. Fucking responsibility getting in the way of my gaming time.

Have been hesitating to install the new Doom because I just can't see it topping the Hell on Earth campaign included with Brutal Doom V20b. Kinda late to the party there but that was fucking glorious. It has everything I want in a shooter.

It is 100% determined now that the next campaign will be the sought-for Hell on Earth, you can just wait a year or two.

There are two reasons I didn't play the game beyond beta, and the first is the fact that I left all hope to keep up with modern shooter industry. The second one is a sheer volume of this game ofc.

Well the thing is, in the original Doom I could at least pretend it was semi-serious, feel like a lone marine who just fucking wants to go home and play with his pet bunny. It's pretty much Falling Down on Hell-infested Mars, after which the protag just keeps having to choose between saving the world and dying. He's doesn't want to do any of it, just go home, but to get there he has to go through literal Hell, and through the episodes he finally begrudgingly accepts his role, much like Isaac Clarke does throughout the Dead Space trilogy.

2016 Doom in comparison has the outward appearance of a mix between Duke Nukem and an exploding bag of skittles every time you kill something. The former part gives me mixed feelings because despite my alternative interpretation, the game seems to be very much created with the same intentions as the original, which is just some demon slaughtering fun without much reason at all, but what I cannot get over is that some of its core gameplay mechanics remind me of the worst that arcade style games have to offer. Enemies exploding into the ammunition equivalent of candy completely destroys any suspension of disbelief. I know I can't really get a hardcore demon invasion simulator but it would be nice to have something that is just slightly more engaging than Pinata Party Sim 2016.

you only just now discovered brutal doom? It has propagated to near meme level proportions, many mods go out of their way to prevent compatibility with brutal doom, it is almost a slur on doom modding websites. Apparently the creator stepped on too many toes or something.

Besides brutal doom you might want to look at:
Russian Overkill - You won't find a mod with more absurdly powerful weapons.

Guncaster - Adds a lot of character upgrading and new mobility mechanics

Hideous Destructor - I guess you could call it an ultra-hardcore mod, your weapons are powerful but so are the enemies. Bleeding, weapon resting, lots of fun stuff.
>> No. 58865 ID: d4c8ee
The Russian Overkill/Guncaster guy did another mod called Trailblazer which is pretty good for slaughter maps like Hellbound.

Demonsteele is also really good.

Sgt. Mark IV has been accused, iirc, of stealing work and claiming it as his own, which was used as the basis of Brutal Doom, a really long time ago. I've never seen any evidence for this, nor have I looked for it. Considering the amount of work he did put in BD himself since then, it can't have been more than a few percent of the product we see today. They say he's an asshole, although I've never spoken to him. I can imagine he has little patience for whining little cunts, regardless of whether that whining was deserved or not.

Now whether you believe he's literally Hitler or not, one thing's for sure. BD is really fucking cool and this whole war should have just stayed between Sgt. Mark IV and whoever he may or may not have stolen anything from. It's none of my business, in any case.

I heard the same thing and can find little to back it up.

I think its another instance of jealousy making people try to take something away from someone else. We see that all the time with popular works, accusations by individuals and entire groups that content is stolen. I mean sometimes its accurate or atleast extremely suspect like the Brain Dead quest set in the Far Harbor Vault from Fallout 4 and the popular NV mod Autumn Leaves being incredibly similar.

Of course its not unreasonable to say Sgt Mark might have been inspired by other things. Certainly the aim down sights, executions, flipping people off, and more weren't his inventions, weren't even the first time they were in Doom mods probably. But there is a different between theft and inspiration.

Now there are some possible instances of theft in some versions BD like using some sound effects from Doom 3 for the chainsaw and BFG but even that I wouldn't consider theft considering its just reusing other Doom content.
>> No. 58873 ID: c60885
In all honesty I don't know enough to make a judgement call either way.

He very well might have stolen some assets or code or whatever. I just don't know. I'm not gonna attack, nor defend him.
